Position is located in the Interior Design Unit of Environmental Management Service( EMS). The incumbent of the position receives technical and administrative supervision from the General foreman who discusses work assignments and suggests priorities. Incumbent is expected to perform functions independently unless unusual circumstances arise.

Duties

Prepares and coats surfaces from ladders, scaffolds, and platforms. and where the surfaces to be painted are in cramped and hard-to-reach places . Use and application of various kinds of coating materials, solvents and pre-coating agents. Use tools and equipment such as brushes, rollers, spray guns, trowels and screeds, straight edges, viscosity testers, graining devices, and wet and other thickness gauges. Apply coating materials, solvents, paint remover, and pre-coating agents. Prepare surfaces by methods such as smoothing with pumice and rottenstone, filling, shaping, and leveling with metal and synthetic resins. Checks work while in progress and when completed assures that safety rules are observed and keeps general foreman aware of work issues. Read and apply directions that relate to the mixture, use, and application of various kinds of coating materials, solvents, and pre-coating agents, for example, paint, varnish, epoxy, teflon, paint remover, alkali and phosphate compounds, pickling mixtures, and anti-growth agents. Work Schedule: 8am-4:30pm, Monday-Friday Position Description Title/PD#: Painter/PD00617A Physical Requirements: Employee prepares and coats surfaces from ladders, scaffolds and platforms, and where the surfaces to be painted can be cramped and hard-to-reach places. This requires much standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in tiring and sometimes uncomfortable positions. May occasionally be required to handle equipment and furniture up to 40 pounds however, usual physical exertion is in the area of ten pounds.
