About the Position: Serves as the Safety and Occupational Health Manager for the 596th Transportation Brigade (BDE) (Ammunition) or the 834th U.S Transportation Battalion (BN).

Duties

Analyze accident and mishap reporting statistics to identify trends and advise management on methods to address specific problems. Oversee mishap investigation boards to ensure application of appropriate safety standards. Apply risk management techniques to determine compliance with OSHA standards. Review ordnance and explosive risk management procedures to formulate decisions prior to site remediation. Develop safety program management policy instructions for implementation throughout the installation. Evaluate organizational safety and occupational health practices by conducting assessments to identify strengths, weaknesses, and regulatory compliance. Develop policies to support mishap prevention during the storage, handling, or use of explosive materials. Prepare written policies or procedures for safe handling, storage, and transportation of hazardous materials.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 15% of the time.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.

Developing, interpreting and implementing safety and occupational health laws, standards, policies and regulations to ensure organizational compliance and promote a safe working environment. 2.) Providing guidance to management on developing explosive safety policy and pertaining to ammunition/explosives handling, storage, and/or transportation of hazardous material and 3.) Performing risk assessments, on-site field surveys and accident investigations to determine causes and recommending corrective actions. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
