About the Position: The Production Machinery Mechanic installs, maintains, and troubleshoots all machines and equipment associated with Directorate of Public Works, Maintenance and Operations Division, Life Cycle Equipment Management shop's mission.

Duties

Performs preventive maintenance on equipment. Performs preventive maintenance to identify potential issues and troubleshoot problems. Reads and interprets blueprints, schematics, and diagrams for preventative maintenance and repairs. Diagnoses a variety of complex industrial machines and equipment which have a variety of mechanisms Utilizes a variety of testing devices. Tests electrical lines, circuits, systems, fixtures, controls, and equipment associated with a variety of industrial production equipment. Performs precision alignments, adjustments, and reassembly of complicated machinery. Interprets complex drawings, sketches, and specifications.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must possess a valid state drivers license to operate a government vehicle.
  • This position requires lifting up to 45 pounds and a pre-employment physical and annual physical thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position requires the use of protective clothing/equipment including respiratory protection.

Ability to perform the work of a Production Machinery Mechanic-duties such as performing the repair and overhaul of plant equipment and machinery; diagnosing trouble with machinery and extent of repairs required; dismantling equipment, cleaning and examining components for damage or wear; replacing and/or repairing deficiencies noted by installing bushings, bearings, seals, gaskets, pulleys, and/or timing devices; and reassembling equipment and machinery - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The position Without More Than Normal SupervisionAbility to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprint reading)Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and EquipmentKNOWLEDGE OF EQUIPMENT ASSEMBLY, INSTALLATION, REPAIR, ETC.Knowledge of MaterialsTechnical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic)Trouble Shooting PHYSICAL EFFORT: The work requires the employee to push, pull, reach, walk, stand, crawl, kneel, bend, and work in cramped positions over and under machinery of all types for sustained periods of time. Frequently handles objects weighing up to 45 pounds and occasionally carries objects weighing over 45pounds WORKING CONDITIONS: Employee works both inside and outside, sometimes in bad weather and in areas that are noisy, dirty, greasy, and smoky. Employee is exposed to fumes, heat, flying objects, glare, electrical shock, and heated materials. Eye injuries, broken bones, cuts, and strains are possible. Wears protective clothing as required by the job, including safety shoes, gloves, flash shields, goggles and other equipment.
