About the Position: Become a part of the largest graduate professional military education institution in the nation! This is a full-time faculty position as provided under Title 10 USC 4021. Initial appointment may be up to three years, the first of which may be a trial period. Appointment may be renewed in one- to five-year increments thereafter. Academic rank and salary will be based on academic credentials, experience, and professional accomplishments.

Duties

Serve as the USAWC expert on the understanding of Emerging Technology as it applies to military operations and capabilities across the operational to strategic spectrum. Support and conduct Army and U.S. Government level research on Emerging Technology and its implications to national security. Develop and deliver graduate-level curriculum which focuses on Emerging Technology to include Human - AI/IA Machine Teaming, advanced weapons systems, decision support systems, decision dominance, ethics, and other emerging technology topics. Facilitate student research, writing, and perspectives on Emerging Technology related security issues. Assist in the development and incorporation of Human - AI/IA Machine Teaming and other emerging technologies into enterprise-wide educational methods and efforts, including knowledge management. Participate in wargames and workshops; and write and publish on matters of strategic importance related to the implications Emerging Technology on national security. Represent the USAWC at professional conferences, seminars, and meetings; and develop/support USAWC conferences, seminars, and meetings. Engage in internal and external service in support of institutional missions.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance.
  • Must comply with the Drug Testing Program requirements (pre-employment testing and random testing after being appointed).
  • This position has a travel requirement up to 10% of the time.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens This is a full-time term appointment in the excepted service not to exceed 3 years starting on or about summer 2024, but no later than 1 August 2024. Appointment may be extended in one- to five-year increments thereafter. As a term employee you will be eligible for medical insurance, life insurance, retirement, dental and vision. You will be eligible earn annual leave and sick leave. Qualification Requirements: Degree: behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position; or Combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field; or Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. In addition to meeting the Qualification Requirements above, applicants will be rated on the following: SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR/KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Applicants will be rated on the criteria listed below: 1. Relevant experience in the science and/or practice of emerging technologies in support of military leaders at the operational or strategic levels; 2. Demonstrated potential for quality research and publication on emerging technology, with an emphasis on Human - AI/IA Machine Teaming, weapons technology, mission command, decision making, decision dominance, ethics and technology, and the implications of these areas to national security; 3. Experience in developing and educating students at the graduate, and/or executive or Senior Service College level. 4. Demonstrated skill at presenting research and analysis to senior leaders and officials, including demonstrating the potential to engage senior leaders in specific research-based discussion and provide sound recommendations; 5. Active involvement in professional networks relevant to emerging technologies; and 6. Graduate degree in a discipline relating to social sciences, education, artificial intelligence/intelligence augmentation, social robotics (education), ethics as related to AI/IA, or other related degree. A PhD or equivalent is strongly preferred.
