About the Position: This position is located with the Office of Chief Operations & Readiness, Provost Marshal Division, located in Blanchfield Army Community Hospital, Fort Campbell, KY. Fort Campbell lies on the Kentucky/Tennessee border between Hopkinsville, KY & Clarksville, TN about 45 miles NW of Nashville.

Duties

Ensure the safety and security of all staff, patients, visitors, and government owned property within the facility by conducting both internal and external patrols of the hospital, satellite clinic, parking lots and grounds. Detect suspicious or abnormal behavior; and stops, questions, and detains persons when probable cause exists to do so. Conduct initial inquiries for both administrative and potential criminal complaints and reports findings to the Hospital Provost Marshal/Security Officer. Secure weapons or contraband until it can be released to the Installation Provost Marshal Office or appropriate civilian law enforcement agency. Monitor access into restricted areas (e.g., pharmacy, warehouses, etc.) and intrusion detection system alarms using both manual and electronic methods (i.e., Electronic Access Control Systems (EACS)/Intrusion Detection System (IDS)).

Requirements

  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • This position has been designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • This position may require the incumbent to work on any day or shift, including PMs, nights, weekends, holidays, or on an "on call" basis, necessary to meet mission requirements.
  • This position requires the incumbent not have any criminal convictions, pass a character investigation and possess and maintain a valid state driver's license. Criminal convictions, and/or loss of license may result in removal from the position.
  • This position requires the incumbent to qualify annually with a 9mm Semi-Automatic pistol and be proficient in any other required firearms, scanner metal detector and oleoresin capsicum (OC) pepper spray/foam.
  • The incumbent is required to maintain a high standard of conduct; and will be assessed under the Individual Reliability Program to show they can work effectively under pressure or emergency conditions with a positive attitude toward his/her duties.
  • This position requires incumbent to complete a pre-employment physical, physical agility, and psychological examinations and annual thereafter to ensure the required level of physical health and ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position requires incumbent to be trained and maintain current required certifications in CPR techniques and must know first aid.
  • Incumbent may be required to be screened for applicable immunizations and subject to missing/required immunizations.
  • This position has the following medical requirements; good near and distant vision, ability to distinguish basic colors, and ability to hear the conversational voice.
  • This position is under the Federal Motor Operations medical requirement specified in 5 Code of Federal Regulations Section 930 Part 109; persons operating a Government owned or leased vehicle are subject to medical testing once every 4 years.
  • This position is subject to the Lautenberg amendment to the gun control act of 1968 which makes it a felony for anyone who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence to ship, transport, possess, or receive firearms or ammunition.
  • This position requires the incumbent to undergo and pass an annual medical exam of physical, emotional, and mental stability.
  • This position has been designated Weather Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • You must undergo a specific initial background checks, investigation and periodic re-verification check of multiple agency records to obtain and maintain a suitable determination to occupy a position having regular contact with children.
  • This position may require incumbent to wear chemical protection masks, gloves, and other protective equipment and a uniform. Incumbent must not have any medical condition that precludes the wearing of a chemical protective mask and over garments.
  • This position requires that you obtain and maintain a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Incumbent may be required to be screened for applicable immunizations and subject to missing/required immunizations.

Competition for Security Guard positions is restricted by law to persons entitled to veterans' preference as long as such applicants are available for appointment. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: detecting and preventing theft, damage, and/or trespassing to an organization or assigned area; checking documents for individuals seeking entrance to restricted areas prior to granting entry; coordinating with a Federal, State, municipal, local, or private protective organization to protect property against hazards such as fire, theft, damage, accident, or trespass; maintaining order to protect lives in crisis situations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-5).
