Duties

Clean, repair, reinstall or replace defective parts of components and systems on heavy mobile and track equipment. Determine parts required by review of technical and supply manuals. Perform visual and/or mechanical inspection of hydraulic, electrical and mechanical systems. Diagnosis, repair, and inspect engines, transmissions, drive lines, powertrain, and chassis components.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health, ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a military Driver's License to operate vehicles.
  • This position requires a pre-employment Personnel Security Investigation.
  • This position requires the use of protective clothing and equipment.

I can clean, repair, reinstall or replace defective parts of components and systems on heavy mobile, construction and track equipment; interpret air, hydraulic, and wiring diagrams/schematics; and determine parts required by review of technical and supply manuals. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The position Without More Than Normal SupervisionAbility to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprint reading)Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and EquipmentKnowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc.Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic)Trouble ShootingUse of Measuring Instruments Physical Effort: Works in tiring and/or uncomfortable positions for long periods. Work requires frequent standing, bending, reaching, stretching, climbing, and crouching. Works on top and under vehicles in cramped or awkward positions. Frequently lifts and carries up to 40 to 50 pounds and often exerts similar effort in pushing, pulling, and positioning parts, assemblies, and equipment. Frequently lifts and moves heavier items with assistance of other workers and with lifting devices. May be required to work from ladders or work platforms of varying heights. Working Conditions: Work is performed inside maintenance facility, outside at an unannounced field location, and/or in a lighted shop. When inside, frequently exposed to drafts, changing temperatures, and noise which is difficult to talk above. When outside, sometimes works in bad weather, in mud or snow, and in wet or icy areas. Both inside and outside, workers are exposed to irritations and discomfort from dust, dirt, grease, mud, and a noisy atmosphere. Frequent exposure to the possibility of cuts, bruises, shocks, burns, strains and injuries from falls while repairing, positioning, and moving equipment. Work involves constant exposure to exhaust fumes and exposure to weather (hot and cold, rain and snow). Operates vehicles in all types of traffic and weather conditions. Worker is exposed to possible serious accidents.
