You will serve as a INDUSTRIAL HYGIENIST in the Industrial Hygiene Program Office (IHPO) of NMRTC TWENTY NINE PALMS CA. This announcement uses the Expansion of Direct Hire Authority for Certain Personnel to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to certain positions in the competitive service. SALARY RANGE GS-11 $84,366 - $109,673 / GS-12 $101,121 - $131,452 TERM Not To Exceed 2-YEARS

Duties

You will perform industrial hygiene inspections, surveys, and evaluations. You will assess work practices to identify the population at risk and to detect violations of published health standards. You will evaluate the need for quantitative assessment of air contamination, noise, and other physical stressors as well as the quantitative assessment of ventilation systems. You will recommend engineering controls to correct deficiencies where feasible. You will provide consultation and advice to activities on occupational health problems and concerns.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: A bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in industrial hygiene, occupational health sciences, occupational and environmental health, toxicology, safety sciences, or related science; (Your transcripts must be attached.) Evaluation of Education All science or engineering courses offered in fulfillment of the above requirements must be acceptable for credit toward the completion of a standard 4-year professional curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in science or engineering at an accredited college or university. For engineering degrees to be acceptable, the curriculum must be in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology) as a professional engineering curriculum. FOR GS-12 Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Conducting Industrial Hygiene Surveys, assessing and documenting workplace hazards, and recommending appropriate controls; Applying federal, state, Department of Defense (DoD), and department of the Navy (DON) occupational health laws, policies, regulations, guidelines, methodologies, and objectives to the development and implementation of a region-wide industrial hygiene program; Drafting industrial hygiene policy and guidance for occupational health and safety professionals; Evaluating new work processes and recommending measures to minimize health hazards; Investigating health problems among workers to determine probable cause and recommend corrective measures; AND Devising control measures for ventilation, shielding, material, substitution, and change in work procedures. FOR GS-11 Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Applying industrial hygiene concepts, principles, and practices carrying out all industrial hygiene programs; Assisting in the evaluation occupational health hazards to include those for which the nature and extent of hazards is not completely understood; Using industrial hygiene sampling techniques and instrumentation; Operating automated systems such as Defense Occupational and Environmental Health Readiness System - Industrial Hygiene (DOEHRS-IH); AND Writing technical industrial hygiene reports.
