About the Position: This is a PERMANENT position as a Supervisory Chief of Staff, with the Soldier Support Institute located at Fort Jackson
Duties
The incumbent independently plans and carries out duties, determining the scope and objectives of assignments and resources required.
Applying originality, insight, and creativity in the identification and resolution of problems and the development of programs and policies.
The supervisor is advised of work progress through informal discussions, meetings, and conferences and major policy issues are brought to his/her attention with recommended solutions.
Serves as senior technical advisor to the SSI Commander and Civilian Deputy to the SSI Commander in assigned program areas, participating in top management discussions, decisions and policy making.
Serves as one of the principal agents, senior advisors, and program synchronizers for the SSI on a wide range of issues related to mission support, internal management, and administration.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
- This position is supervisory as defined by the OPM General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). A one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of up to 5% of the time.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience.
Specialized experience: One year specialized experience in the Federal service which includes: 1) performing a wide range of complex administration functions in support of daily operations such as represent the organization on matters of importance, make authoritative decisions in the areas of human resource management and training needs of employees; 2) developing policy, resolve daily operational issues, provide advice and guidance to supervisors and other subordinate military or civilian staff; 3) representing the Command at ceremonies, official functions and public events; 4) monitoring financial reports and budgetary programs for conformance with command requirements. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-14).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
