The incumbent serves as a Prosthodontist and provides dental care services for the Dental Service at the Jennifer Moreno Veterans Affairs Medical Center, VA San Diego Healthcare System. The incumbent provides comprehensive clinical services to Dental Eligible Veterans, and performs general dental assessments and treatment in a multi-disciplinary setting.

Duties include, but are not limited to:
Comprehensive prosthodontic examination, consultation, overall restorative treatment planning
Complete and partial overdentures
Fixed and removable prostheses involving precision attachments
Prosthodontic treatment of malposed teeth, occlusal plane discrepancies, changes to the existing vertical dimension of occlusion with or without concomitant restoration of anterior guidance.
Full veneer ceramic restorations, as well as ceramic inlays and onlays
Oral reconstruction to include, but not limited to opposing quadrants resored with fixed prostheses
Complete dentures involving complicated occlusal schemes
Complete dentures involving a cast metal bases or cast metal occlusal
Single unit complete dentures opposing natural dentition (complicated)
Dentures on surgically augmented residual ridges, rotational path removable partial dentures
Nonsurgical management of temporomandibular disorders
Resin bonded fixed partial dentures
Minor tooth movement (fixed appliances)
Intraoral maxillofacial prostheses and repairs
Prostheses fabrication and maintenance on intraoral osseointegrated fixtures
All other duties as assigned

Dentist Basic Requirements
A degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery or dental medicine resulting from a course of education in dentistry. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are (1) United States and Canadian schools of dentistry listed by the Commission on Dental Accreditation(CODA), in the list published for the year in which the course of study was completed.(2) Schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia as qualifying for full and unrestricted licensure provided the licensure requirements include a written examination measuring science achievement and a performance examination measuring clinical competence certification, and must obtain a copy of the ECFMG certificate, if claimed by the applicant. ~AND~
Completed, or you are currently completing, a residency program in general practice or specialty, or comparable experience as a dentist actively involved in treating medically compromised patients. ~AND~
Currently hold, or will hold, a current, full and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Note: Dentists must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active, current licensure.
Preferred Experience: Candidates must have knowledge in government health care and experience treating patients who have served in the military and the associated stressor's that are inherent with multiple extended deployments (e.g. anxiety, post-traumatic stress, substance abuse, traumatic brain injury, and increased suicide rates).
In addition, a candidate must have successfully completed General Practice/Advanced Education in General Dentistry and Prosthodontics Residency training program. Experience in training dental residents is preferred. Must be able to collaborate with general and specialists dentists.

Physical Requirements: The Prosthodontist should be physically and mentally capable to perform the duties of the position. Physicial activities include sitting, standing (up to 2 hours) walking (up to 2 hours), heavy lifting (45 pounds or over), reaching above the shoulder, and repeated bending. Office duties are generally sedentary in nature but will require occasional travel. Physical activity involves potentially long periods of continued walking, standing, stooping, bending, pulling, pushing, and sitting at a keyboard and carrying light items such as papers, books or other supplies. Transferring patients and objects may be required. The incumbent uses a computer and standard office equipment. Applicant may at times be exposed to stressful situations with Veterans.
