The incumbent serves as the working leader of the Grounds and Transportation shop within the Engineering Maintenance and Operations section of Facilities Management Service Line (FMSL). The position supports the delivery of quality health care by assuring an attractive and orderly landscape cost-effectively by assisting in the planning and day-to-day use of resources such as workers, equipment, materials, and tools. In the absence of the supervisor, the work leader assumes.
Duties
Passing on to other workers the instructions received from supervisors and getting work started, e.g., by assigning the immediate tasks to be performed by individual members of the group led;
Seeing to it that needed plans, blueprints, materials, and tools are available, and that needed stock is obtained from supply locations;
Responsible for the proper fertilization of grassy areas, trees, shrubs, and flowers; knowing the correct type of fertilizer, and the proper intervals of application.
The lead man will also have a working knowledge of the campus irrigation system. Will be able to troubleshoot irrigation leaks and make minor repairs to valves and sprinkler heads.
Leads or performs digging of water and gas mains, moving of heavy equipment and supplies,
demolition work, etc.
Leadership responsibility for the proper preparation of shrub and flower beds and tree
planting and gives direction on proper ways to plant.
Position calculates quantities of plants, shrubs, trees, seeds, fertilizers, chemicals, and other material, and determines quantities of plants, seeds, fertilizer, etc. needed for specific areas.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 6:00 am - 2:30 pm (subject to change based on the needs of the agency)

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Tasks are physically strenuous and frequently require heavy lifting, carrying and pushing/pulling items that weigh up to 50 pounds. Works from ladders, scaffolds, and platforms and where surfaces are to be coated, or parts of systems being worked on are cramped or hard to reach. The incumbent's duties may require standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing and/or working in tiring and uncomfortable positions.
