The primary purpose of this position is to service, pick-up and deliver aerospace ground equipment as required to aircraft parked on Hickam AFB flight line and to aircraft related facilities on the base. Assist mechanics in installing pans and components, operating, inspecting, and repairing assigned aerospace ground equipment.
Duties
- Delivers and picks up AGE to and from specified aircraft ramp locations in support or flight line operations or other contingency areas on base.
- Assists journeyman mechanics in performing scheduled or unscheduled minor, major maintenance/inspections on powered and non-powered AGE
- Maintains equipment records and documents completed jobs using applicable maintenance data collection system (Core Automated Maintenance System or G08l System).
- Adheres to work center safety, fire prevention, and housekeeping standards

- The work may require the employee to drive a motor vehicle up to and including a 1-ton truck. An appropriate civilian valid driver's license may be required for the position.
- This position is emergency-essential (E-E). In the event of a crisis situation, the incumbent, or designated alternate. must continue to perform the E-E duties until relieved by proper authority.
- The incumbent or the designated alternate may be required to take part in readiness exercises.
- The incumbent of this position must meet all requirements of E-E positions and may be required as a condition of employment to take a series of vaccinations and annual boosters to immunize against anthrax and other diseases.
- This position cannot be vacated during a national emergency or mobilization without seriously impairing the capability of the organization to function effectively.
- This meets the criteria of an E-E position and requires that the incumbent, or the designated alternate, be removed from any military recall status.
- Position may require the employee to operate a forklift up to 15.000 pound capacity to move heavy powered support equipment.
- Employee must have the ability and dexterity} to use hand and power tools. Must be able to follow directions and comply with shop operating instructions. safety regulations and technical directives.
- Incumbent may be required to work overtime. rotating shifts, uncommon tours, weekends, etc.
- Incumbent may be required to take part in mobility exercises and contingency operations.
- Performs additional duties as required.
- Must be able to obtain a SECRET security clearance
Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-5300 Industrial Equipment Maintenance Group. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.
The screen out element for this position is the ability to do the work of a POWERED SUPPORT SYSTEMS MECHANIC HELPER without more than normal supervision.
JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Skill in reading, interpreting technical publications. operating instructions, and other applicable guides related to equipment maintenance and documentation.
2. Basic knowledge of common hand and power tools and familiar with acceptable sound maintenance practices.
3. Knowledge and awareness of basic safety, environmental, and housekeeping standards. Ability to apply shop procedures, policies, written and oral instructions, and directives to provide a safe and productive work center.
4. Skill and patience in driving special purpose vehicles and towing equipment on night line and around various types of aircraft.
5. Skill and patience in using two-way ground radios to communicate effectively to complete tasking requirements.
6. Ability to follow instructions and apply knowledge gained from training to service, inspect repair, operate, and tow assigned equipment.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

PHYSICAL EFFORT: The work requires moderate to strenuous effort. Work requires standing, stooping, stretching, bending. kneeling, and
working in tiring, cramped positions. Frequently handles items weighing up to 10 pounds, and often lift and carry assemblies weighing up to 25 pounds. Hoists, hand trucks, lifts, and other employees are available to assist when handling heavy or awkward items. May be required to climb steps ladders and stand on slippery or inclined surfaces.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Exposed to oil, grease, fuel. battery acid, cleaning solvents, slippery walking surfaces, hazard of electrical shock, high-pressure air and engine noise. Required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) such as goggles, ear protections, face masks, safety toe shoes, respirator, etc., which are sometimes heavy and uncomfortable. Occasionally. subject to possible burns, cuts, electrical shocks. and respiratory ailments.
