Duties

You will provide legal advice on complex problems, advise clients on matters, and cases brought by or against the Department of the Navy. You will interpret laws, rulings, and regulations for the Department of the Navy. You will present and summarize cases, drafting and interpreting laws and legislation and eveluating findings and developing strategies and arguments in preparation of matters and cases. You will represent and advocate for the Department of the Navy ad provide legal advise and counsel, in the form of oral advice and written options. You will perform administrative functions as related to the practice of law and participate in organization-wide or command level initiatives.

  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This position is eligible for part time, substantial or ad-hoc telework at the discretion of management.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • Relocation expenses (i.e. PCS) may be authorized in accordance with applicable travel regulations.
  • You will be required to complete ethics orientation within three months of appointment and submit a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report, OGE-450, within 30 days of appointment.
  • You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.

Qualifications

Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Identifying best legal strategy for resolving issues or representing client's interest. Resolving highly technical and complex factual and lisgal issues. Researching and applying different areas of law within the Office of General Counsel (OGC) legal practices areas and the pertinent statuses and regulations relating thereto. Utilizing computer and on-line resources, proficient in electronic word processing and electronic legal research. Communicating effectively, both orally and in writing.
