This position is located in Department of Homeland Security (DHS), U.S. Coast Guard, Eighth Coast Guard District, Sector Lower Mississippi River, in Millington, TN. 

Duties

The position's primary purpose is to serve as Secretary to the Sector Commander and the Deputy Sector Commander at Coast Guard (CG) Sector Lower Mississippi River. You will be responsible for a variety of administrative and office automation duties that are auxiliary to the work of the organization.  As Secretary, you will be the principal administrative assistant in the office providing administrative assistance to the command staff. Being a CG civilian makes you a valuable member of the CG team. Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • This position requires a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI).
  • Applicants must be able to type 40 words per minute
  • Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • A one-year probationary period may be required.

Qualifications

AT THE GRADE LEVEL GS-07: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-6 grade level in the Federal sector.  Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Examples of specialized experience include: preparing correspondence and other documents in proper grammar, spelling, punctuation, and format; receiving visitors, maintaining files, incoming correspondence, typographical errors; scheduling supervisor's activities, composing correspondence, resolving problems, locating information, organizing workflow of office. National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees.  If you are currently, or have been within the last 5 years, a political Schedule A, Schedule, C, Non-career SES or Presidential Appointee employee in the Executive Branch, you must disclose this information to the Human Resources Office.
