About the Position: This position is located at Monterey, California. Monterey is approximately 115 miles south of San Francisco and 350 miles north of Los Angeles. Monterey is on the central California coast, just minutes away from Carmel-by-the-Sea and Pebble Beach. Monterey is a scenic California coastal city that rises from the pristine Monterey Bay to pine forested hillsides with sweeping bay views.

Duties
Conduct individual and group counseling sessions for at-risk behavioral health patients in an outpatient setting.
Collect and records psychosocial data and assists with direct treatment and management of behavioral health patients.
Make preliminary interpretations of the data from patients and develop recommended courses of action.
Conduct screening and intake assessments.
Enter patient-specific and workload data into approved automated data bases.
Participate in program planning meetings to evaluate and improve program activities, processes and capabilities.
Provide administrative support program within the Department of Behavioral Health to include monitoring patient enrollment and participation.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- A Personnel Security Investigation is required Tier 2 – Non-Sensitive, Moderate Risk (Public Trust).
- This position is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations. Applicants tentatively selected for this position will be required to sign a statement consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
- Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
- This position is an inclement weather position. The incumbent is expected to make every attempt to report for duty on time and/or remain on duty during inclement weather conditions.
- Must obtain/maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of employment.
- This position requires the ability to lift items up to 30 lbs.
- Term employment is subject to a one-year trial period. Employees serving a trial period.
- This is a Term position scheduled to last 3 Years. A term position may be extended to a maximum of six years depending upon the needs of management.
- This is an obligated position. An obligated position is one to which an employee has statutory restoration rights or entitlement based on active return rights based on an overseas tour.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job.
Specialized experience: one year of experience which includes work that involves observing and assisting in the application of techniques relating to behavioral health patients, evaluating behavioral health clients to determine required services, providing counseling services, and maintaining client files. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08).

Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Psychology, Human Services, Child & Family Welfare, Counseling (ex. crisis, substance abuse, mental health, chemical dependence), Family and Community Services, Behavioral Science, Human Development, Social Work, Sociology, Vocational Rehabilitation Counseling, or related field of study.

Combination of Experience and Education: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
