This Electrician position is located in the Engineering Service at the Canandaigua VA Medical Center, in Canandaigua, NY. The incumbent will be assigned to the Electric Shop and performs the duties of a journeyman electrician under the supervision of the Electrical Supervisor.
NOTE: A recruitment incentive of $5000 has been authorized for highly qualified individuals (Restrictions apply).
Duties
Incumbent works from building plans, wiring diagrams, and engineering drawings. Incumbent is responsible for planning and laying out the routing, placement, and arrangement of industrial or similarly complex systems, circuits, controls, and equipment. Electrician determine installations and repairs including such things as the types, sizes, gauges, and lay out of conduit, wiring, couplings, fittings, relays, controls, and distribution panels, and other electrical devices used in a variety of complete electrical systems and the best methods of installation and repair. S/he is responsible for safe and proper operation of systems and equipment, and for compliance with the National Electrical Code. Completes installations, modifications, and repairs, and load and test systems, circuits, equipment, and controls with little or no check during the progress or upon completion of work.
Work Schedule: 7am-4:30PM (Compressed schedule)

Physical Requirements: Make repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding, platforms, and other hard-to-reach places. This requires standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lift and carry tools, equipment, and parts weighing up to 20 pounds and less often, up to 40 pounds. Occasionally, they lift or move with assistance moderately heavy objects weighing more than 40 pounds.
Critical Skills Incentive: This occupation is currently approved for a Veterans Health Administration enterprise-wide Critical Skills Incentive through October 8, 2024. Candidates may be eligible for a lump sum CSI for a pro-rated amount if onboard prior to the CSI expiration date. Eligible candidates will be required to sign a service agreement agreeing to an obligated service period and failure to complete the obligated service period may result in a debt for the unearned portion of the CSI.

Preferred Experience :Knowledge of primary and secondary power distribution power systems and circuits used to supply a wide range of voltage, amperage, phase and frequency requirements. Knowledge and ability test equipment using schematics/drawings/test equipment/recording devices and analyze results. Knowledge of NEC Codes/VA specifications and NFPA 70E. Ability to install equipment while following safety rules and regulations. Ability to work as journeyman on more complex projects. Ability to read schematics and use them to trouble shoot and repair. Knowledge and understanding operation of equipment from users manual and utilize tools in safe manner. Ability to work with various level of employees to determine the need and how to repair items from work order. Knowledge and ability to install and repair distribution panels, boxes various electrical systems and raceways. Knowledge and ability to install, modify, repair and maintain electrical lines, circuits, generator systems. Knowledge and ability to work on complex electrical systems such as intrusion/temperature alarms/VFD/AHU and lighting equipment. Knowledge of distribution panels, switch gears, power and control circuit; industrial multiphase systems, thermocouple sensors, intrusion alarms, fire alarm systems, emergency warning system, lighting protection systems, high intensity lighting systems and associated controls. Ability to communicate with technical support and use various testing equipment. Ability to use users manual to determine how to complete repairs. Determine problems from users/plan troubleshooting procedures and executing plan; with knowledge of LOTO.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
