You will serve as an Air Traffic Control Specialist of NAS PENSACOLA. Positions in this series are eligible to receive 5% premium pay entitlement and the position subject to special retirement coverage for ATC positions. FPL of Position is GS-11

Duties

You will relay verbal instructions to experienced pilots to control air traffic in a congested and complicated traffic situation. You will brief pilots of the existence or development of potentially hazardous meteorological conditions. You will process flight plan information for use by other controllers in the control tower.

Requirements

  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

  • Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level. This requirement is called time-in-grade. Time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.

  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This position is considered Key/Emergency-Essential. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support to ensure the success of combat operations or the availability of combat-essential systems.
  • Must achieve qualification on all ATC operation position within 12 months of being hired. In addition, incumbent must maintain currency and proficiency on all ATC operating positions as required by ATC NATOPS Manual NAVAIR 00-80T-114

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Providing air traffic control, low approach and landing services to aircraft operating within designated air space; 2) Issuing taxi instructions to pilots, while relaying departure clearances for the center to the terminal controller and the pilot; and 3) Determining the safe, orderly, and expeditious movement of air traffic within the delegated air space.
