This position is located in Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, in the Administration Division.

Duties

Serves as a front-line representative of the park. In many instances the incumbent is the first and only contact the visiting public has with the NPS employee. Provides public orientation and explanations of current park events, resource management projects, management policies and legislatives updates affecting the park area. Helps train lower graded staffing customer service. Deal with a high volume of personal contacts while maintaining a professional demeanor. Gathers information from reporting parties concerning accidents/incidents within the area to notify appropriate personnel. Trains employees, sets up work goals and employee performance plans, and helps resolve employees' complaints. Collects and accounts fees at park entrance station following established accountability guidelines for handling government funds. Safeguards funds collected. Helps train lower graded staff in fee operations. Below is a list of duties but not limited to: Perform full range of supervisory duties for a team of permanent and seasonal recreation fee technicians and clerks. Collect appropriate fees at entrance station in accordance with accountability guidelines; determine visitor eligibility for the sale of various park passes. Maintain accountable stock. Serve as a front-line uniformed representative of the park. Provide current and accurate information and excellent customer service to visitors concerning the park and surrounding areas. Operate equipment (e.g., point of sale systems, electronic cash register, credit card machine, and/or computer) to collect fees and track various forms of payment (e.g., cash, credit cards, checks, etc.). Prepare reports including remittance reports, shift reports, and visitor use statistics.

Qualifications

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-03/20/2024-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience. To qualify for this position at the GS-08 grade level, you must possess the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: (1) leading and training others in collecting appropriate fees following established accountability guidelines; (2) leading and training others in operating an electronic cash register; (3) leading and training others in completing shift reports to verify money collected, accountable stock sold, and all transactions from the shift; (4) resolving issues that arise in the remittance process and assisting staff with fee issues. You must include hours per week worked. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
