The purpose of this position is to provide quality nursing care to youth ages 12 to 17 years of age with substance use/chemical dependency/co-occurring problems. The position works in coordination with other professional staff in the treatment and management of facility residents to ensure a safe, structured, and therapeutic residential treatment environment. The position reports to the Supervisory Nurse Practitioner (DON).
Duties
Responsible for patients from admission to discharge and has considerable knowledge, experience and skill for concentrated effort and self-motivation to carry out patient care assignments.
Observes patients' changing conditions and participates in updating patient care plans throughout the shift consistent with recognized nursing standards and in accordance with appropriate nursing care and prescribed medical treatment.
Takes vital signs and specimens. Coordinates health care needs through making referrals to optometrist, dentist, etc. Prepares and administers prescribed medications orally and intramuscularly; glucose monitoring and diabetes medication management per physician's orders.
Documents clients' progress in the chart using notation and format designated in the policies and procedures, ensuring entries are made on completion of assessment, and upon implementation of the treatment plan.
Qualifications

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
BASIC REQUIREMENT:
Licensure: Candidates must be currently licensed to practice as practical or vocational nurses in a State or territory of the United States or the District of Columbia or must have applied for a license to practice. Applications of candidates possessing a license must be accompanied by a certified or photostatic copy of the license, a notarized statement attesting to the fact, or a citation of the license number and State issuing it. Non-licensed candidates who have completed their training may be appointed subject to obtaining the required license during the probationary period. Those not licensed must furnish the date on which they applied for a license and the jurisdiction involved. No person appointed pending licensure may be retained beyond the probationary period if licensure has not been attained.
In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below-
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-5 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector. Qualifying experience includes nursing care work in a hospital, outpatient clinic, nursing home, or other supervised medical, nursing, or patient care facility that provided a practical knowledge of human body structure and procedures, performing the following type of work and/or tasks: observing, recording, and reporting changes in behavior of patients; preparing and administering prescribed medications orally and intramuscularly; understand and systematically review and analyze the patient's medical history and patient care plan so that nursing care is tailored to the patient's needs; provide standardized therapeutic patient care and interaction techniques for the purpose of establishing effective relationships with patients and interacting with members of the treatment team; and experience with administrative duties such as case management, nurse group, scheduling, quality improvement, infection control and patient safety goals.
