This position is located in the Division of Radiological Safety & Security within the Commercial, Industrial Research & Development and Academic Branch.   The supervisor is Monica Ford. This position is in the Bargaining Unit with the National Treasury Employees Union, Chapter 208. The position is subject to Confidential Financial Disclosure and Security Ownership Restriction reporting requirements.

Duties

As a Senior Health Physicist in the Commercial, Industrial Research & Development, and Academic Branch, Division of Radiological Safety & Security, you will perform and coordinate radiological and environmental protection licensing and serve as a senior inspector to lead, plan, conduct, report and integrate findings associated with radiation protection inspections of varied facilities using byproduct, source and/or special nuclear materials.  You will investigate and evaluate the most difficult occurrences with radiological safety significance.

Qualifications

In addition to the basic education requirements, to qualify for this position you must have at least one year of specialized experience at the next lower grade level in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.   SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE includes experience that demonstrates technical aspects of the NRC programs and policies and inspections relating to facilities possessing and using byproduct, source and/or special nuclear materials.  Experience in reviewing routine and complex applications for materials licenses.  In addition, experience associated with a regulatory program focused on safety and security.   A description of how you possess the specialized experience should be addressed in your resume. Education

BASIC EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:  Candidates must have a thorough understanding of the theories, principles, and practices in the general field of health physics, evidenced by possession of a bachelor's degree in a natural science or engineering that included at least 30 semester hours in health physics, engineering radiological science, chemistry, physics, biology, and mathematics, including calculus or equivalent, OR completion of the courses listed above, plus appropriate experience or other education; OR certification as a health physicist by the American Board of Health physics, plus appropriate experience and other education that provided an understanding of sciences applicable to health physics.
