About the Position: The incumbent serves as a Lead Security Guard responsible for safeguarding government personnel, property, and technologies against such threats as: unlawful entry, sabotage, espionage, theft, accidental or willful damage, and destruction.

Duties

Serves as a Shift Leader who is an assistant to the Guard Shift Supervisor. Make daily assignments to ensure that guard coverage is provided to assigned patrol areas. Instruct employees in specific tasks and job techniques and provide on-the-job training to new employees in accordance with established procedures. Perform Visitor Control Center (VCC) duties. Operate and perform research queries on the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) workstation terminal(s) in accordance with (IAW) federal and state laws. Report to supervisor on performance, progress, and training needs of employees, disciplinary problems, and makes informal suggestions on employee personnel actions. Authenticate identification through use of electronic Personnel Access Control Systems (ePACS), identification cards, badges, biometric automated records, verbal questioning, and other means.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. Detection of the presence of drugs is warranted.
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential".
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • This position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.

  • Due to the nature of this position, employees are required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.
  • Incumbent may be subject to recall for periods of emergency overtime.
  • This position requires certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation with Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) training.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and sustain state certification for operating the NCIC terminals.
  • In accordance with Army Regulation 190-56, employee and prospective employee of this job are expected to maintain a high standard of conduct; they must be assessed under the Individual Reliability Program.
  • Incumbent must be proficient in the use of assigned firearms/weapons.
  • Incumbent must successfully complete security guard training.
  • Incumbent may be required to wear chemical protection masks, gloves, and other protective equipment, and may be required to be certified in the use of aerosol irritants and baton.
