Duties

Incumbent is responsible for performing a full range of historic preservation tasks on a daily basis. The primary purpose for this position is to use historic preservation practices to refurbish the exterior of 1840's historic structures, while providing support to park staff with grounds, janitorial, and general park maintenance. The incumbent will assist permanent carpenter and other journeymen with carpentry work, building maintenance, and repair projects such as tread board and step replacement, window and door replacement, siding rehabilitation, wood column rehabilitation, priming & painting, or other preservation projects. Must be able to apply pre-mixed paint, preparing surfaces, caulking seams, and coating areas from ladders, scaffolding, and hydraulic lift. Able to drive ½-ton truck and utility vehicles, which may pull trailers to haul tools, materials, & dispose of trash and waste. Required to use many types of PPE, not limited to hard hat, goggles, gloves, and respiratory protection mask in performance of duties. Able to lift items weighing 60-100 pounds. Must be able to work from heights on scaffolding. Must be able to operate motorized equipment not limited to self-propelled boom lift operate large complex riding lawn mowers that have multiple or independently controlled cutting decks, and/or specially designed mowers that operate on slopes; lawn and garden tractors with various specialty attachments such as gardening attachments, trenchers, snow plowing or removal equipment, etc. The equipment operated characteristically includes single-function performance and components that are independently controlled through various hydraulic and/or mechanical devices. May occasionally load and unload supplies and materials from trucks, trailers, dollies, etc. Moves furniture, remove and sets posts, paint picnic tables, rakes and picks up litter, and keep a clean workspace.
