This is Commissary Management Specialist (Produce Intern) developmental program. The purpose of this position is to develop the incumbent for placement in a Produce Department Manager, GS-1144-07, position through a combination of a one-year planned formal training plan and on-the-job work assignments. **Fort Cavazos 1 (formerly Fort Hood I), Commissary Store location** We encourage you to read the entire announcement before starting the application process.

Duties

The incumbent will perform a variety of instructional assignments and tasks designed to develop knowledge of and skill in produce department operations. At the full performance level position responsibilities include: Participates in stocking produce department merchandise learning to identify and distinguish among all types of fruits and vegetable products. Learn display methods, storage locations and temperature requirements, rotation processes, and restocking procedures. Participates in maintaining security, verifying accuracy of receiving documents, visually inspects merchandise, take temperature of delivery truck advice supervisor if there is a problem. Participates in maintaining adequate quantities, quality and wholesomeness, proper pricing and signage, and availability of commissary product. Becomes familiar with and utilizes a variety of DeCA information business systems to understand store operations and to perform tasks which affect operations. Participates in validating and processing documents and reports related to orders, receipts, sales, vendor credits, and price changes. Learn and practices all food safety, sanitation, handling, and processing regulations and all safety regulations and processes associated with the operation of commissary machinery. Participates in conducting inventories, verifying inventory quantities, and maintaining records of orders, receipts, sales, and other operational data. Greets customers and handles complaints concerning produce. Explains product location and availability. Work conditions:

Qualifications

You must meet qualifications and requirements by the announcement closing date. Your resume (and/or transcript if necessary) must clearly show that you meet the qualifications (i.e., specialized experience and/or education requirements) for the grade level for which you are applying. Qualifications: Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience, 1 year of which was equivalent to at least the GS-04 grade level that provided an understanding of the basic principles of any of the following: merchandising, market research, sales promotion/advertising, or the accounting, administration, and/or distribution of goods and services. Such experience may have been gained in store worker, sales, clerical, or related work that demonstrated a familiarity with food retail operations and the ability to perform the duties of the position to be filled OR Four year course of study leading to at least an undergraduate degree with a major field of study in business administration, public administration, agricultural economics (food industry management), or other fields related to this position OR A combination of education and experience. To be creditable, the computed percentage of the requirements must equal at least 100%. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of experience. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 36. Then divide your total number of completed undergraduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 120. Add the two percentages. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service program (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Physical requirements: (1) Lift, push, pull, carry, and handle commissary products weighing up to 40 pounds unassisted and occasionally over 40 pounds with assistance. (2) Stand, stoop, kneel, bend, and climb for prolonged periods. You will attest to your ability to perform these physical requirements in the Questionnaire. Education

Education used to qualify for this position, in whole or in part, must have equipped you with the knowledge and ability to perform the work of the position, as evidenced by on-the-job-training in food retail management or an internship or practicum in food retail management.
