You will serve as a EXPLOSIVES SAFETY SPECIALIST in the EXPLOSIVES SAFETY DIVISION of NAVAL STATION.

Duties

You will administer and evaluate an explosives safety program to oversee the safe and efficient handling, storage, transportation, disposal, and treatment of explosives. You will inspect in and around explosive operating and storage areas where maintenance and repair is accomplished to confirm safe operations. You will analyze mishaps and hazardous conditions to determine origin, causes, and contributing elements. You will confirm explosives are stored in accordance with applicable regulatory guidelines based on the item's nature, characteristics, hazards and risks to minimize potential for mishaps while in storage.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance while employed in the subject position. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Selectee must obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • This position is considered Key/Emergency-Essential. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support to ensure the success of combat operations or the availability of combat-essential systems.
  • You will be required to have the ability to discern colors, contrast, and depth.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain any and all applicable licenses or authorizations to operate assigned equipment.
  • The employee may be required to work overtime.
  • The employee may be required to work overtime on an emergency basis.
  • The employee may be recalled to duty.
  • This position requires the employee to work under adverse environmental conditions.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Performing inspections of facilities, equipment, and operations to ensure compliance with explosives safety requirements; 2) Identifying explosives safety hazards and/or recommending corrective actions to resolve safety hazards; 3) Conducting mishap investigations to determine the root cause of accidents; 4) Presenting explosives safety training to employees to promote a safe workplace. Education

Have successfully completed a master's or equivalent graduate degree.
OR
Have successfully completed two full years of progressively higher graduate level education leading to a master's degree.
OR
Have obtained an LL.B. or J.D. that is related to the position being filled.
OR
Have a combination of experience and education that equates to one year of experience. Percentage of education plus percentage of experience must equal 100%.
