Duties

This position is located in the Facilities Operations Branch of the Facilities Management Division within the Mission and Readiness Support Directorate of the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers (FLETC) in Glynco, Georgia. Serving as a Maintenance Mechanic makes you a valuable member of the FLETC team and mission. You will be responsible for coordinating, monitoring, and performing requisite installation and repair duties for the upkeep, operation, and utilization of the Center's specialized training facilities and support facilities. Qualifications

While there is no minimum amount of training or experience required, in these positions you will function as a developmental and journeyman maintenance mechanic and your experience should include knowledge of the full range of trades and the operation and installation of various systems and equipment. Work requires the ability to apply mathematical formulas, inspect, read and interpret blueprints and shop drawings, layout, cut, assemble and independently install piping and equipment or check existing systems. (Your experience must be detailed in your resume to receive appropriate work experience credit.) Physical Effort: Continually handles objects weighing up to 10 pounds and occasionally may lift and carry items that weigh about 50 pounds. Considerable standing, stooping, and bending is required. Also works on ladders and scaffolds, which require the incumbent to work overhead or in stretched, cramped, or awkward positions. Working Conditions: Works inside in areas that are usually crowded and noisy, and outside, sometimes in bad weather. The Maintenance Mechanic is exposed to the possibility of electrical shock, cuts, bruises, and broken bones. Also works on scaffolding, high ladders, or rooftops. The Maintenance Mechanic may be required to work shift work and/or weekends. May be required to start work earlier, stay later than normal working hours, or be called back for emergencies. The Maintenance Mechanic complies with the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) certification for handling of refrigerants and must be able to possess a valid universal license approved by the EPA, if refrigerant work is required. Hazards may require wearing full-faced pressurized breathing mask, which requires the Maintenance Mechanic to be clean-shaven. Occasionally required to wear protective clothing where there is the possibility of exposure to gunpowder, toxic refrigerant, and/or other hazardous materials. Required to operate government vehicles to travel between work sites. This position is deemed Emergency Essential in accordance with FLETC Directive 70-90. F, Hurricane Response Plan dated August 19, 2019. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps and AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. The Office of Personnel Management must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees.
