This position serves as Lead Supply Technician (Medical) for the Medical Supply Distribution (MSD) areas of Logistics Service within the Tomah VA Medical Center in Tomah, WI. As a Lead Supply Technician, you will provide wards, clinics, operating rooms, secondary storage locations, and other hospital facilities with supplies and material including, but not limited to, sterile and non-sterile medical supplies, instrument sets and equipment.

Duties

***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*** Major duties and responsibilities include: Distributes and balances workload among employees in accordance with established workflow or job specialization and assures timely accomplishment of assigned workload. Monitors status and progress of work and makes day-to-day adjustments in accordance with established priorities. Maintains current knowledge and answers questions of other employees on procedures, policies, directives, or other guidelines as necessary and obtains needed information or decisions from supervisor on problems. Maintains stock at primary and secondary inventory locations for all clinical and administrative services, including pulling stock inventory and material from inventory for delivery, replenishing stock inventory, interacting with customers to resolve issues, maintaining records on stock levels, etc. Performs inventory using bar code equipment and resolves differences between records and physical count of stock. Ensures areas are cleaned in accordance with aseptic principles as published in infection control guidelines, local Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Joint Commission standards as scheduled. Receives supplies and materials into the catchment area including unpacking/uncrating supplies from shipping cartons; storing supplies and materials; and ensuring sterility and integrity of the supplies and material as well as the data integrity of the inventory management system. Works with clinical and administrative customers as well as outside vendors with tact and diplomacy to coordinate work activities and resolve operating issues pertaining to supply management requirements. Qualifications

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE Applicants must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience that equipped them with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position, and that is typically in or related to the work of this position. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-5 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience includes: distributing supplies and materials, including sterile and non-sterile medical supplies, instrument sets and equipment, to all areas of the facility; scanning, bar-coding, receiving, storing and distribution of supplies and materials; assists in training new employees; maintains current knowledge and answers questions on procedures, policies, etc.; maintains stock by pulling stock, replenishing stock, and maintaining records on stock levels; monitors expiration dates and rotates stock; cleans assigned areas in accordance with aseptic principles; and receives supplies and material into the facility. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Physical Requirements: The work requires standing and walking during the entire workday and frequent reaching, bending and lifting of supply packages (occasionally weighing as much as 50 pounds). The work requires pushing loaded carts of medical supplies (weighing in excess of 100 plus pounds). With proper assistance, moves heavier items weighing over 40 pounds.
