About the Position: This position is for Department of Medicine Inhale/Respiratory Therapy Inpatient located at Evans Army Community Hospital, Fort Carson, Colorado.

Duties
Assess patient cardiopulmonary status based on physical exam, pulmonary function results, and laboratory data.
Draw arterial blood sample from patients through arterial blood punctures, arterial line.
Analyze blood samples and recommends treatment to physicians based on results.
Study and interpret blood gas and pulmonary function results on test technical accuracy and logic.
Perform scheduled calibration, troubleshoots equipment following procedures, and follows a quality control system.
Organize and carry out asthma education for asthmatics including asthma teaching, inhaler/nebulizer instruction, and review of written asthma instructions with the family and patient.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
- Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.
- This position may include shift work (evenings, weekends, holidays).
- This position may require rotating shifts (i.e. work schedule that requires employees to continuously rotate from one shift to another at predetermined intervals).
- This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination.
- This position has been designated as a Drug Testing Designated Position and is subject to a pre-employment screening and random testing thereafter.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. A Respiratory Therapy certification is desired.
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: evaluating respiratory therapy patients; setting up, monitoring and calibrating mechanical ventilators and/or other equipment; thoroughly reviews medical records and verifies any changes in therapy before initiating or adjusting treatments/procedures.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

Education: One and a half years of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as respiratory therapy.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total semester hours minus 18) by 9. Add the two percentages.
