You will serve as a Supervisory Designer in the Facilities ENG & ACQ Division, PDC BRANCH PLANNING DESIGN CONSTRUCTION CIVIL/STRU/ARCH GROUP of NAVFAC ENGINEERING CMD MID-ATLANTIC.

Duties

You will provide supervision, design and workload management/leadership, criteria and code interpretation, and training and mentoring in the area of design to the technical staff within the component. You will plan, design, and sketch overall solutions for architectural and engineering features of various complex and unusually difficult projects for preliminary as well as final design purposes. You will review plans and designs prepared by both in-house and by AE consultants to determine their conformance with Navy and Department of Defense technical guides, criteria and good construction practice. You will assist with construction quality assurance by performing code required special inspections or required discipline-specific observation(s). You will manage project design budgets and be a part of the process in requesting design funds from customers. You will actively participate in the Public Works Department weekly Work Induction Board and Project Execution Meeting.

Qualifications

This position has a selective placement factor that will be used to screen out ineligible candidates. Selective Placement Factor (SPF): This position has an SPF which is current registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) or Architect (RA) in any state, District of Columbia, Guam or Puerto Rico. Applicants for the Professional Engineering Series must meet the following basic education requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual:

Successful completion of a bachelor's degree (or higher) in engineering. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree (or higher) in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET); or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

A combination of college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering. The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by one of the following: (I) Professional registration or licensure: Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico. My curriculum for a degree in either architecture or architectural engineering covers function, esthetics, site, structure, economics, mechanical-electrical, and other engineering problems related to the design and construction of buildings primarily (but not exclusively) intended to house human activities OR you lack a degree in architecture, but I have 1 year of experience in an architect's office or in architectural work for each year short of graduation from a program of study in architecture that demonstrates that I have acquired a thorough knowledge of the fundamental principles and theories of professional architecture.
