You will serve as a Lead Data Scientist in the the Advanced Simulation (GT5.2), Training Systems Research, Development, Test & Evaluation Department (GT5.0) of NAWCTSD ORLANDO.

Duties

You will apply data science concepts to identify patterns and relationships in large data sets as well as derive correlations between identified operational, engineering, and human performance factors. You will use a combination of data science and software development expertise to create advanced software-based data analysis and visualization tools to meet the needs of specific in-house research projects and external customers. You will execute and oversee an appropriate software and hardware version control and configuration management of laboratory assets assigned to team members. You will assist management in the preparation of technical status briefs to customers, sponsors, other government agencies, industry, and academia, as required, in support of execution of responsibilities.

  • This is a Cyberspace Workforce position, work role code 621, proficiency level Advanced. The incumbent is required to obtain and maintain qualifications in DoDM 8140.03 Cyber Workforce Qualification and Department of Navy policies.
  • This position is covered under the Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA). Certification in the Acquisition Functional Area and category assigned to the position is required within established category timeframes.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-12) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector as a professional Data Scientist. Specialized experience includes duties related to the following: 1) Applying data science concepts to identify patterns and relationships in large data sets; 2) Using data science and software development expertise to create advanced software-based data analysis and visualization tools; 3) Utilizing expert knowledge of relevant programming languages, such as C++, C#, Java, Python, SQL, Julia, HTML, and XML; 4) Planning and conducting basic, applied, and advanced data-driven technology research and development projects. Education

  1. Degree: Mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or field directly related to the position. The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position.

  2. Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major field of study (30 semester hours) as shown in paragraph A above, plus additional education or appropriate experience.
