The Supervisory Social Worker (Home Care Teams) serves as a supervisory social worker providing oversight of the home care team social work staff and collaborates in an interdisciplinary team with Geriatrics and Extended Care - Home Based Primary Care, Medical Foster Home and Home Based Transitional Care teamlets.
Duties
The James A. Haley Veterans Hospital is a Level I tertiary medical center with general medicine, surgical, psychiatric, rehabilitation, spinal cord injury, nursing home care beds and one of four Polytrauma treatment facilities in the VA. It also encompasses one major outpatient clinic in New Port Richey and four community based outpatient clinics in Brooksville, South Hillsborough county, Lakeland and Zephyrhills. The hospital has social work affiliations with three universities, Florida State University, University of South Florida and St. Leo's University. The hospital is a teaching hospital affiliated with the University of South Florida School of Medicine.
Duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
Professionally and administratively managing Social Work Service in the Geriatrics and Extended Care section.
Independently assuring that Central Office Geriatrics and Extended Care program standards and policies are adhered to in a timely and effective manner.
Assisting in planning, establishing, and implementing policies and procedures; developing individual or group goals and objectives as well as monitoring, operating, evaluating, coordinating and overseeing the Social Work staff of the assigned program.
Assuring the Social Workers whom they supervise are aware of, adhere to all current directives of VHA, and meet current JCAHO standards, state licensure standards, and VA-OIG expectations.
Conducting ongoing intensive reviews and appraisals to ensure the accomplishment of objectives and adherence to standards set by governing bodies.
Providing direct clinical services which includes providing coverage for supervised staff, when needed.
Attending and or participating in a variety of monthly and quarterly conference calls disseminating needed information to VA staff and community agency staff as warranted.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm

Qualifications
Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.
Basic Requirements:
United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
English Language Proficiency: Candidates must be proficient in spoken and written English to be appointed as authorized by 38 U.S.C. § 7403(f).
Education: Have a master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the School of Social Work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may NOT be substituted for the master's degree in social work. Verification of the degree can be made by going to http://www.cswe.org/Accreditation to verify that the social work degree meets the accreditation standards for a masters of social work.
Licensure: Persons hired or reassigned to social worker positions in the GS-0185 series in VHA must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master's degree level. Current state requirements may be found by going to http://vaww.va.gov/OHRM/T38Hybrid/.
May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria).
Grade Determinations: In addition to meeting the basic requirements stated above, the following qualifications criteria must be met in determining the appropriate grade assignment of candidates.
GS-12 SupervisorySocial Workercandidates must have the following:
Experience/Education: One (1) year of experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills in a specialty area or in administration demonstrating progressively more professional competency and judgment. Candidate may have certification or other post-master's degree training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship, or equivalent supervised professional experience.
Licensure/Certification: Individuals assigned as Supervisory Social Workers must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level, and must be able to provide supervision for licensure.

Ability to independently organize work, set priorities, and meet multiple deadlines.
Knowledge of supervisory duties which includes clinical supervision, consultation, negotiation with other departments and quality improvement.
Ability to ensure provision of clinical social work services.
Ability to provide staff training and development.
Skill in interpersonal relationships in dealing with employees, team leaders, and managers.
Preferred Experience: Working with multiple programs, interpreting and implementing program policy, at least one year supervisory experience, experience working with geriatric population.

Physical Requirements: Incumbent will need to have a valid state-issued driver's license and may be required to travel in the community across the James A. Haley VAMC catchment area. A driver's physical will be required to utilize a government vehicle. This supervisory position requires incumbent to be able to sit a work site, utilize a computer, mobile phone, fax machine and printer.
