The primary purpose of the position is to service as senior engineering technician in support of design and construction projects for the installation as well as performing associated surveying work.
Duties
Independently plans the methods to portray and prepares engineering drawings involving original and complex designs.
Prepares drawings for major contractual projects utilizing computer design software.
Stores, catalogs, maintains, and updates as-built drawings.
Operates and maintains print reproduction equipment.
Performs surveying work as chief-of-party on simple construction or surveys of third or fourth order of accuracy and of limited scope and complexity.

Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Technical and Medical Support Positions, for the GS-0802, Engineering Technician Series. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-6, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience knowledge of, and skill in applying, standardized rules or operations for limited projects involving specialized or complicated procedures requiring substantial training or experience in methods and practices of drafting techniques sufficient to produce engineering drawings involving original, novel, and/or complex designs.

EDUCATION: Successful completion of one full year of graduate education with major study in an appropriate field of engineering, construction, or industrial technology. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your college transcripts.

COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your college transcripts.
FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-6 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-7 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Knowledge of symbols, terminology, and accepted standards used in engineering drawings and the equipment, facilities and systems of civil, mechanical, electrical and architectural engineering disciplines using architectural/graphic design software to accomplish usually difficult drafting assignments.
2. Knowledge of surveying methods and equipment and techniques in the measurement or determination of distances elevations, areas, angles, land
boundaries and other features of the earth's surface.
3. Skill in maintaining and operating reproduction machines.
4. Ability to prepare original and complex drawings that are neat accurate, appropriately dimensioned, and logically arranged, utilizing methods and techniques of drafting, and print neatly and legibly both freehand and with mechanical lettering devices.
5. Ability to make mathematical computations using standardized tables and formulas.
6. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
