About the Position: This position is located at Alexander T Augusta Military Medical Center (ATAMMC), formerly Fort Belvoir, Department of Surgery, Plastic Surgery Clinic.

Duties
Provide patient education on treatment/procedure performed and provide follow-up care on patients previously seen in the clinic.
Write prescriptions, order the administration of medications, dispense medications and prescribe controlled substances in accordance with approved treatment protocols.
Work collaboratively with the physician in patient management evaluation and revision of therapeutic plans.
Formulate a treatment plan for acute and chronic problems within the scope of practice.
Clinic duties include both outpatient and inpatient clinical encounters.
Manage patients covering the full breadth of general surgery, to include digestive tract issues, hernias, bariatrics, colon/breast/endocrine oncologic cases, trauma, and foregut.
Data entries all other medical documentation into automated systems such as Genesis and patient medical record systems.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
- This position requires the incumbent to have tuberculosis testing.
- This position has mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
- This position requires the incumbent to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.
- This position requires that you obtain and maintain a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from either American Heart Society or American Red Cross.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain advanced certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
- This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
- This position requires the incumbent to have tuberculosis (TB) testing and Hepatitis B.
- Moderate to heavy lifting up to 25 lbs. is required.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Basic Requirements for Physician Assistant:
Education: Graduation from a physician assistant educational program, accredited by the Accreditation Review Committee on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or its predecessors, at a college, university, or educational institution that is accredited by an accrediting body or organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
Certification: Successful completion of the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) examination; must maintain status as a certified physician assistant, including completion of all requirements for Continuing Medical Education (CME) and re-certification.
Licensure: Applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician Assistant from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
Exemption: You are exempt from the license requirements above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0603 occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017 or before. Note: You will be required to provide appropriate documentation to the respective Human Resources Office to validate your status.
In addition to meeting the basic requirements above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Experience: A minimum of one full year of work experience as a certified physician assistant which includes (1) collecting and recording medical histories in automated patient record system/s; (2) conducting physical examinations; (3) prescribing medications; and (4) managing patients recovering general surgery (i. e., digestive tract issues, hernias, bariatrics, colon/breast/endocrine oncologic cases, trauma, and foregut). This definition of experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
Education
FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
