This position is located within the Location Support Office for USDA's Agricultural Research Service (ARS) in Mississippi State, Mississippi. In this position, you will perform the full range of cleaning duties in assigned areas following general instructions on the work to be done.

Duties

Cleans hallways, offices, laboratories, and restrooms by sweeping, vacuuming, dusting, scrubbing, and mopping. Keeps restrooms clean, orderly, and sanitary condition. Uses various preparations to clean and maintain linoleum, wood, marble, and various kinds of floor, wall, and ceiling surfaces. Set up conference rooms for meetings, seminars, and conferences by arranging tables and chairs. Moves heavy furniture, supplies, and equipment and performs work that may involve the use of a ladder. Uses heavy industrial type cleaning equipment such as powered scrubbers and buffers. Cleans and oils powered cleaning equipment and changes brushes and accessories.

Requirements

• Males born after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt.

• Successful completion of one-year probationary period, unless previously served.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for this position you must meet the following by the closing date of the vacancy announcement: 03/15/2024. Qualifications will be determined under the Job Element Rating System X-118C, Qualifications Standard Handbook. While a specific length of time and experience is not required for most Wage Grade positions, you must show through experience and training that you possess the best qualified level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of this position. Qualification requirements emphasize the quality of experience, not necessarily the length. Position requires continual standing, bending, stooping, and reaching, and occasional lifting and carrying of moderately heavy objects. Working Conditions Incumbent works inside and out with adequate light, heat, and ventilation. May be subject to injury if working from ladders to skin irritations from using strong cleaning solutions, or to minor cuts, scrapes, or bruises. Is exposed to dirt, dust, and disagreeable odors.
