The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a work leader over a crew of three or more workers/mechanics. In this capacity, the work leader provides instructional guidance, makes work arrangements, insures production pace is maintained and works with crew engaged in the removal, installation and/or troubleshooting of assigned items, assemblies, or systems.

Duties

1. Works along with crew members to set the pace, checks work while in progress as well as when completed to insure that predetermined standards of quality, work procedures, and sequence established by the supervisor have all been met by personnel. 2. Receives project work orders and/or instructions from supervisors. 3. Conducts on the job training to insure that skill levels are developed/maintained to accomplish work assignments. 4. Periodically checks supply of materials and equipment and insures needed supplies and equipment to accomplish work assignments are available and manages the tool control program. 5. Ensures that the crew abides by all rules, regulations, and policies established by higher authority relative to safety, security, fire prevention, and good housekeeping. 6. Complies with all established rules and AF Policies. 7. Works to achieve and support quality improvement in all products and services.

• Comprehensive knowledge of and ability to apply the various methods of electrical wiring and running conduit are essential, together with knowledge of methods and sequences of stalling high powered electrical systems.
• Also must possess ability to evaluate the extent of repairs and modifications required. Skill is needed in the use of a great variety of test equipment, tools and measuring instruments
• Exercise is moderately strenuous and includes prolonged standing, climbing on work stands. Requires frequent working in cramped and awkward conditions.
• Occasional lifting of items weighing up to 50 pounds is required. Required climbing to above 12 feet. Must be able to read basic colors
• Works indoors and outdoors in all seasons. There is a danger of electrical shock, injury from powered machinery, and from falls while working on scaffolds, ladders, roofs, and other structures.
• Provides OJT to lower grade, borrowed, and newly assigned personnel. Consults on development of formal training as required.
• Observes safety, security, good housekeeping, fire prevention, and FOD rules, regulations, practices and policies.
• Will use respirator as required and attend respirator-training classes when scheduled by training monitor.
• Uses any other required safety equipment.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-2800 - Electrical Installation And Maintenance Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is Ability to Lead or Supervise JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of Electrical Equipment Theory and Instruments (Electrical, Electronic) Used in Shop and Trade Practices Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) Ability to Use Electrical Drawings Ability to Use and Maintain Hand Tools (Electrical Work) Trouble shooting (electrical) PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
