You will serve as a Pipefitter in the Industrial Unique Program Division, Naval Air Depot of FLEET READINESS CENTER SOUTHWEST. This announcement uses the Direct Hire Authority for Certain Personnel of the Department of Defense to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to certain positions in the competitive service.

Duties

You will perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, overhaul, repair, replacement, installation, and modification efforts in direct support of aeronautical equipment installations at both shipboard and shore-based locations worldwide. You will be responsible for layout of routing, placement, pitch, incline and evaluation of piping systems and associated systems. You will give technical and work instructions to personnel of lesser skills assigned to assist on the job to include: helpers, apprentices, and other employees. You will plan and arrange for proper and safe operations ensuring that piping, valves, fittings, and component parts are safe as well as proper for the work.

  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.

Qualifications

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. The Screen-out Element for this position is: I have the ability to perform common tasks including: 1.) Installing and checking piping systems and equipment such as pressure regulators, relief valves and pressure supporting and controlling devices; 2.) Interpreting drawings, sketches, and plans for fabrication, installation, repairs, and modification of piping systems; 3.) Using a variety of hand and power tools such as grinders, wrenches, hacksaws, torque wrenches, micrometers, benders, pipe threaders, saws and calipers; 4.) Installing, repairing, modifying, checking and testing high-temperature and high-pressure systems including but not limited to: hydraulic, steam, lube oil, fire main, fresh water, high pressure air, etc. I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.
