Duties
Major Duties:
The incumbent of this position performs as a Maintenance Worker at Ninety Six National Historic Site.
The incumbent must be self-directed and able to perform duties with minimum supervision. Work includes tasks associated with trades such as:
-Carpentry repairs using simple measurements and hand tools, painting and staining surfaces using brushes and rollers
-Minor plumbing repairs such as tightening or replacing in-kind fittings and fixtures which do not require custom fitting or solder joints.
-Electrical work such as diagnosing/changing bulbs, fixtures, switches, breakers and outlets
-Additional tasks includes operating light trucks, tractors, UTVs, mowers, forklift, and bobcat to transport supplies and materials, and perform grounds and trail maintenance.
-Incumbent will perform custodial services in and around park facilities.
The park portfolio is comprised of diverse infrastructure and resources with operational complexity due to the types and distribution of sites. The organization is characterized by administrative, visitor support and maintenance facilities, as well as cultural landscapes and historic resources significant to the Revolutionary War, and natural resources with local ecological significance. The park contains a 27-acre fishing lake and official state fishery, equestrian trails, and over 10 miles of trails throughout the site's 1,022 acres.
The incumbent is a member of the park maintenance team reporting directly to the Superintendent.
Location Information:
The primary duty station is Ninety Six National Historic Site, which is located in Ninety-Six, Greenwood County, SC. All basic services including schools, medical and shopping facilities are located within a short drive of the park. There is a full range of housing for sale or rent in the area and the cost of living is considered low to moderate. Temperatures for the area range from very hot and humid in the summer to cool and moderate in the winter.
The park is grouped administratively with Cowpens National Battlefield, Kings Mountain National Military Park and the Overmountain Victory National Historic Trail for support purposes. Cowpens National Battlefield, located in Gaffney, SC, and Kings Mountain National Military Park, located in Blacksburg, SC are between 1.5-2.0 hours from Ninety Six. Overmountain Victory National Historic Trail is operated out of Cowpens National Battlefield but the trail spans VA, TN, NC & SC. Staff within the group of parks sometimes travel between sites for training opportunities and support purposes such as special events.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors:

Knowledge of equipment assembly, installation, repair, etc.
Technical (theoretical, precise, artistic)
Use of measuring instruments
Ability to interpret instructions, specification, etc. (includes blueprinting reading)
Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment
Knowledge of materials
