About the Position: Sierra Army Depot is located in Herlong CA, a rural town in Northern California. Herlong is approximately 60 miles north of Reno, NV, and 35 miles south of Susanville, CA. The depot serves as an Army Expeditionary Logistical Support Center. Employees work Mon-Thurs, 0630-1700 hrs. Youth Facilities and childcare available. Mass transportation is available at minimal cost. Surrounding area boasts a full range of outdoor sports/recreation activities.

Duties

Conduct daily safety checks of material handling equipment to ensure safe operation. Check facility for safety hazards to prevent on-the-job accidents. Receive and complete warehousing work assignments through verbal or written work instructions. Use a variety of equipment preservation techniques to preserve parts, surfaces, and equipment from corrosion and deterioration.

• This position requires a valid, State-issued motor vehicle driver's license.
• This position requires Incumbent to participate in Temporary Duty Travel (TDY).
• This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health/ ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
• Position is subject to realignment/movement within the Mission organization due to changing mission requirements.
• This position has a requirement to lift up to 40 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
• Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
• Employee must possess applicable license(s) or authorization(s) to operate assigned vehicles.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Material Handler (Direct Hiring Authority) ~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common Materials Handler duties receiving, storing, and moving a variety of material. I can use material handling equipment to receive or move material; verify prepared documents for shipping. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Regularly stand on hard surfaces for extended period of time. Constant kneeling, crouching, bending, stooping and walking are required. Works in tiring and uncomfortable positions and in close quarters. Frequently lift and move equipment, components or material weighing up to 40 pounds. Heavier items are lifted with weight handling equipment or with assistance from other workers. Incumbent may climb in, on and under vehicles and other large, mechanized equipment. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed inside or outside in areas that may be hot, cramp, cold, drafty or poorly lighted. Incumbent is exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, bruises, abrasions, falls, and injury from falling stock or mechanized work areas. May be subject to exposure of hazardous material. May require wearing protective clothing such as hardhats, gloves, masks, etc. Steel toed shoes are always required.
