The North Florida/South Georgia Veterans Health System (NF/SGVHS) is recruiting a Health Technician at the Community-Based Outpatient Clinic located in St. Augustine, FL. The incumbent will assist the medical and nursing staff through technical, specialized or support services for the diagnosing or treatment of patient illness or medical conditions.
Duties
The Health Technician position incumbent assists the medical and nursing staff through technical, specialized or support services for the diagnosing or treatment of patient illness or medical conditions. Duties include but are not limited to:
Receives and directs patients, answers routine inquiries, and makes referrals.
Assists higher-graded technician/care provider to position patients and answer patients questions during complex procedures when required.
Counsels health subjects including nutrition, care of minor injuries and illnesses, and home care of diseases.
Assists medical staff with or performs diagnostic procedures used to diagnose medical conditions.
Adjusts, adapts, and operates specialized equipment and accessories needed for difficult procedures.
Performs patient care procedures such as collection of specimens, applying dressing, adjusting simple supportive equipment.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 03/06/2024.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.
Individual Occupational Requirement: Positions in this series range widely in type and include support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists. Therefore, you are required to have technician experience, which is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled.
In addition to meeting the Individual Occupational Requirement, applicants must also meet the specialized experience. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:
Performs observation-based screening and collection of patient information in collaboration with licensed personnel.
Performs patient care procedures such as collection of specimens, applying dressing, adjusting simple supportive equipment.
Performs difficult measurements or tests on patients such as taking tissue cultures and specimen samples which require difficult specialized procedures.
Teaches patients and family members the necessity of continuing proper health care; Provides follow-up care instructions and demonstrations for patients.
Skill in the operation and use of specialized equipment and materials within the environment to which they are assigned including but not limited to: Lab specimen processing equipment, and glucometer use.

Physical Requirements: The work requires standing, walking, bending, lifting, and carrying light items. The work requires above average agility and dexterity. They work may require heavy lifting of equipment or patients. The work environment involves risks typically associated with performance facility work. Work involves regular and recurring exposure to moderate risks or discomforts that require special safety precautions.
