This position is located in the Eastern Rivers and Mountains Network (ERMN) Inventory and Monitoring Division, Resource Stewardship and Science Directorate at the Interior Region 1 - North Atlantic Appalachian Regional Office. Duties

Failure to submit this documentation will result in loss of consideration due to an incomplete application package. As a Biological Science Technician, GS-0404-08 with the National Park Service (NPS), your duties will include, but are not limited to: Serves as the Eastern Rivers and Mountains Network (ERMN) Inventory and Monitoring Program's field lead for the Vegetation and Soils ("Forest Health") and Rare Riparian Prairie Vital Signs monitoring protocols. Works closely with the ERMN Plant Ecologist to implement all aspects of the two monitoring protocols for up to eight National Park Service (NPS) units. Leads seasonal field crew of technicians and cooperators, create works schedules, coordinate supplies and equipment, and supervises safe work practices. Provides taxonomic expertise to guide work of other field staff. Oversees data entry and quality review for two monitoring protocols. Analyzes data, prepares reports, provide updates, and collaborate with the ERMN Plant Ecologist to communicate findings to variety of audiences. This position is approximately 30% field work and 70% office work. Duties will be developmental in nature when filled below the full performance level.

Qualifications

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-03/08/2024-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. To qualify for this position, you must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 level in the Federal Service that includes organizing a wide variety of established natural resource management projects (e.g., field surveys, monitoring, etc.); making field observations of natural resources including identification of trees, shrubs, and herbaceous plants; interpreting scientific data and prepares tabular and graphical summaries for inclusion into scientific reports; working in outdoor, remote, and wilderness settings under a variety of weather conditions; and articulating project results and interpretations in a clear and concise manner in writing to technical staff and managers. OR Have one full year of graduate level education in one of the following fields or course work: horticulture, arboriculture, biology, chemistry, statistics, entomology, animal husbandry, botany, physics, agriculture, mathematics. OR Have a combination of education and experience. PLEASE NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts, or a complete list of college courses taken that identifies each course, college or university, semester or quarter hour earned, grade received, and date completed. If you fail to submit, your application will not be considered, and you will be rated ineligible. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. For current Federal employees, if hours worked per week are not included on your resume, you must submit a non-award SF-50 for each federal position listed as part of your application to be used to validate your work schedule and determine the amount of qualifying experience that you will be granted. An award SF-50 will not be acceptable documentation for which to consider your amount of qualifying experience. For all other applicants who are not current federal employees, your resume must state either "full-time" (or "40 hours a week") or "part-time" with the number of hours worked per week to ensure proper crediting of specialized experience. Failure to adequately provide information needed to determine number of hours worked in each position may result in that time not being credited when evaluating qualifying experience. For periods of time that reflect military service, the DD-214 or Statement of Service is sufficient to meet the full and/or part-time hours requirement as the service dates will be reflected. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

To qualify based on education, you must have one full year of graduate level education in one of the following fields or course work: horticulture, arboriculture, biology, chemistry, statistics, entomology, animal husbandry, botany, physics, agriculture, mathematics.

You must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.

If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
