What General Information Do I Need To Know About This Position? Salary: Kearneysville/Laurel: $99,200 (Step 01) to $128,956 (Step 10) Turners Falls: $97,979 (Step 01) to $127,369 (Step 10) NOTE: First time hires to the Federal Government are typically hired at the Step 01.

Duties

As a Research Ecologist within the Eastern Ecological Science Center, some of your specific duties will include: - Build and lead a research program focused on Eco-hydrological studies with coastal wetlands, and global climate change. Provide scientific leadership including strategic research planning, program development, and reviewing manuscripts and proposals. - Develop novel aspects of coastal wetland elevation dynamics and saltwater intrusion in coastal habitats to use in research studies and submit research proposals for internal and external funding sources. - Lead scientific manuscripts and other technical writing and give presentations to professional audiences. - Develop data visualization and decision support tools. Perform advanced analytical approaches including but not limited to machine learning, structural equation models, propensity scores, and generalized additive models. - Serve on professional and technical committees with other government and non-government scientists.

BASIC EDUCATION REQUIREMENT: Applicants must meet the following to satisfy the basic education requirement for Ecologist, all grade levels. Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in biology or a related field of science underlying ecological research that included at least 30 semester hours or the equivalent in basic and applied biological sciences. These hours must have included at least 9 semester hours or the equivalent in ecology, and 12 semester hours or the equivalent in physical and mathematical sciences. GS-12: In addition to the basic education requirement as stated above, applicants must meet one of the following to qualify for the GS-12 level: One year of appropriate specialized experience that is in ecology, biology or a related field of science underlying ecological research is qualifying if it is equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal service, and if it equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position to be filled. Examples of GS-11 level work may include: 1) design, development and conduct of protocols to analyze spatial and temporal data relevant to coastal wetland elevation dynamics; 2) conduct of sampling, experimental design, statistical analyses and biometrics relative to coastal wetlands ecology; 3) independent planning and conduct of comprehensive coastal wetland habitat ecological studies/investigations and requests for proposals; 4) modifying and adapting standard ecological-hydrological techniques and procedures for coastal wetland habitat; 5) serving as a technical resource on coastal wetland ecology issues; 6) design and management of coastal wetland habitat projects, studies to provide an understanding of the effects of future land use and climate change in coastal wetlands. **OR Possess a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in a directly related field of study. **OR Possess a combination of successfully completed progressive graduate level education, as described above, that is beyond the second year of graduate study and professional experience, as described above. You must meet all qualification and eligibility requirements for the position by the closing date of the announcement.
