About the Position: This position is located at the Logistics Readiness Center at Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri.
Duties
Assist in the repair and rebuilding of any major component such as engine, transmission and track assembly.
Remove units such as fuel pumps, engines, components of hydraulic systems, brakes and seals and replace with new components.
Obtain standard parts by looking up replacement information in parts manuals or by making comparison with samples.
Occasionally perform higher levels tasks to develop skills in performance of work.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Incumbent is subject to a medical clearance examination prior to employment. This position may require an annual physical or medical surveillance examination.
- Must obtain and maintain a forklift license within 6 months of employment.
- Incumbent is required to possess a valid government motor vehicle operator's license authorizing the operation of vehicles and equipment of the type and capacities determined by the supervisor as necessary for duties of the position.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Heavy Mobile Equipment Repairer without more than normal supervision. The ability to do the work of this position may include: servicing and making repairs on heavy mobile equipment, such as road graders, bulldozers, crawler-type tractors, large cranes, hydraulic systems, tracked combat vehicles, etc. and removing units such as fuel pumps, engines, components of hydraulic systems, brakes, and seals and replace with new components. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Physical Efforts: Makes repairs while the vehicle is overhead and where the parts worked on are in hard to reach places. This requires the employee to stand, stoop, bend, stretch and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. The incumbent may be required to lift parts and equipment that weigh up to 60 pounds.
Working Conditions: Most work is done inside where it is drafty and noisy, and fumes from vehicles are usually present.Frequently stands on hard surfaces for long periods of time. Crawls under vehicles and makes repairs while on hard, usually damp, surfaces. Occasionally performs repairs outside, sometimes in bad weather. Dirt, dust, and grease are always present. Vehicle fluids, such as battery acids and hydraulic fluids, may cause burns or irritate the skin. Frequent exposure to the possibility of cuts,bruises, shocks, burns, and strains. Follows prescribed safety practices and uses safety equipment such as safety shoes and glasses, and respirators.
