About the Position: Serve as a Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic performing the full range of overhaul and repair work on heavy duty mobile equipment and vehicles powered by internal combustion engines, such as construction equipment,material handling equipment, powered support equipment, etc.

Duties

Repair, overhaul, and rebuild major assemblies, systems, such as engines, transmissions, drive line, hydraulic lifting, and positioning systems. Perform inspection of final work product by testing or operating equipment to ensure proper operation. Troubleshoot, inspect, test, diagnose and perform major repairs, overhaul and maintenance of a variety of powered support equipment such as generators, compressors, etc. Diagnose using test equipment and by visual examination. Inspect equipment to determine repair or replacement needs. Perform preventative maintenance on equipment. Drive trucks with up to and including 1 ton capacity for transportation to/from worksites.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Employee must possess and maintain a valid New York State, Class B, Commercial Driver's License.
  • This position may require you to serve as a member of the Army Power Projection Platform (AP3) Operations to encompass deployment activities such as the Departure/Arrival Airfield Control Group (DAACG), SIA, and rail.
  • Work may involve shift work, weekends, and/or holidays, to include mandatory overtime as mission requires.
  • This position is covered by the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program. The incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 5019-R and must pass urinalysis testing, as required prior to appointment and periodically thereafter.
  • Pre-employment and Annual physicals required. Lifting 50 pounds or more.

Work requires frequent bending, reaching, crouching, standing and arm movement. Incumbent sometimes works in cramped areas. Frequent lifting and carrying items weighing up to approximately 50 pounds and lifting heavier items using jacks, hoists, etc. Working Conditions: Work is performed inside and occasionally outside. Inside, incumbent is frequently exposed to drafts, changing temperatures, and loud noise. Outside, incumbent may on occasion be required to work in bad weather. Both inside and outside, frequently exposed to irritation or discomfort from dust, heat, fumes, etc. Incumbent is exposed to the possibility of cuts, burns, bruises, and electrical shocks. Wears protective clothing and equipment as necessary.
