These positions may be filled for a six-month seasonal period, but can vary due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. Anticipated Entry on Duty: April-May 2024. A selectee receiving a first appointment to the Federal Government (Civil Service) is entitled only to the lowest step of the grade for which selected. The display of a salary range on this vacancy shall not be construed as granting an entitlement to a higher rate of pay.

Duties

The major duties of the Maintenance Worker (Historic Preservation) position include, but are not limited to, the following: Assists with the maintenance and preservation of historic and non-historic structures. This position requires skills applied to the maintenance, stabilization, restoration, repair and/or reconstruction of various historic and non-historic masonry and adobe structures. Performs carpentry/woodworking tasks such as reconstruction, restoring or rehabilitating wood structures (rafters, doors, windows, trusses, beams, interior and exterior trim etc.). Performs painting tasks which includes surface preparation and mixing of paints to approximate color and texture of historic paints and stains. Assists with the setup of scaffolding systems.

To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors: Ability to do the work of a Maintenance Worker (Historic Preservation) without more than normal supervision (SCREEN OUT) Technical Practices (theoretical precise, artistic) Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, etc. Ability to safely use and maintain tools and equipment Knowledge of materials. Use of Measuring Instruments Knowledge of equipment, assembly, installation, repair, etc If your knowledge and ability in the SCREEN OUT factor above is not sufficient, you will receive no further consideration.
