This position is located In the Branch of Health Records Services, Division of Administrative Service in the Little Shell Service Unit in Great Falls, Montana. The Incumbent is responsible for the accuracy, appropriate and timely coding and overall completion of the health record. The incumbent reports to the Chief Executive Officer.
Duties
Assign the appropriate ICD-10-CM codes for all diagnoses and surgical procedures as required and documented by the provider for inpatient and outpatient visits.
Assign the appropriate CPT-4 code for all outpatient and inpatient medical, surgical, non-physician professional services and diagnostic services.
Work with computerized Information systems including an electronic health record, encoding software, the Internet and other software applications.
Assist with technical Issues within the computer systems including the EHR.
Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks:
GS-6: 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least next lower grade level
GS-7: 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least next lower grade level
GS-8: 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least next lower grade level

Specialized Experience Examples:
GS-6: Examples include: Analyze, interpret and abstract data from clinical documentation and/or electronic health record to assure the presence and compliance of all component parts of the record; and assigning diagnostic and procedure codes..
GS-7: Examples include: Analyze, interpret and abstract data from clinical documentation and/or electronic health record to assure the presence and compliance of all component parts of the record; perform quality and medico-legal analysis to ensure requirements of the record are complete, accurate, and reflect sufficient data to justify the diagnosis and warranted treatment; review, assign, and correct diagnostic and procedure codes; assist with coding and training to co-workers, providers, contractors, etc.
GS-8: Examples include: apply a comprehensive level of medical terminology and abbreviations; anatomy and physiology; diagnostic services (laboratory, radiology, etc.), major disease processes, pharmacology, pathophysiology and metric system to abstract information to assign codes to identify special clinical findings, support existing diagnoses, or substantiate listing additional diagnoses in the medical record; consult with physician and other clinicians for clarification or additional documentation if record contains conflicting or ambiguous data..
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
