The Social Services Assistant will report to the Office Manager located at the Desert Visions Youth Wellness Center in Sacaton, AZ. The primary responsibility of this position is to supervise and deliver quality behavioral health services and care to youth with substance use/chemical dependency/co-occurring disorders.
Duties
Provides non-professional counseling and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) skills coaching for patients.
Keeps Counselors, the Clinical Director, and the Milieu Charge informed of all clinical and administrative issues.
Participates in the program's behavior management system.
Provides guidance and instruction in group activities, personal health and hygiene, courtesy, and etiquette to residents.
Supervises daily tasks and assignments of residents such as making beds, daily chores, and maintaining living units.
Qualifications

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, GS-0186-06:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Examples of experience include: Providing client services in at least one of the fields, such as psychology, rehabilitation, or social work, including support for families; ability to assist clients in identifying and obtaining available benefits and social and community services; ability to assist social workers with developing, organizing, and conducting programs to prevent and resolve problems relevant to substance abuse, human relationships, rehabilitation, or dependent care.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, GS-0186-07:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Examples of experience include: Planning and carrying out the successive steps and handling behavioral problems in accordance with instructions, policies, previous training, or accepted practices within the interdisciplinary health care team; interact with psychologists, nurses, social workers, community resources, residents and/or their families; facilitate group activities; recognize and respond appropriately to deviations from normal behavior; provide non-professional counseling services, including behavioral issues associated with substance use and mental health disorders in adolescents.
OR
Completion of one year (18 semester hours) of graduate education that is directly related to the work of the position.
OR
Combination of education and experience that when combined fully meet the minimum qualifications for this position. The total percentage equals at least 100 percent to qualify for this GS-07 grade level. (Must submit transcripts)
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
