Duties
You will receive and perform shop assignments in the rudiments of trade tasks, technical shop subjects, and tools, equipment and materials of the trade.
You will perform trade tasks under supervision of a shop instructor or artisan.
You will perform other tasks incidental to the mastery of trade fundamentals.
Requirements

- Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
- Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
- This is a bargaining unit position.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
- Employees are required to observe established safe working procedures. Use of appropriate protective clothing and/or equipment is provided to minimize hazardous conditions, and its use is mandatory.
- You must have reached your 18th birthday prior to appointment.
- You may be required to obtain and maintain current licenses to operate Fork Lift, High Lift (JLG) and/or construction equipment, upon notification.
- The apprentice may be assigned work that requires special certification or licensing to perform the work or to use specialized tools or equipment, apprentice will be required to obtain certification and maintain associated qualification requirements.
- The apprentice may be assigned a truck stocked with controlled inventory and consumable materials. If assigned a stocked truck, the apprentice will be responsible for managing material.
- Work may require certification thru the DoD Lock Program.
- Overtime may be required dependent upon on-the job-training requirement.
- Competency testing may be required to determine if incumbent is eligible for promotion.
Qualifications
Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

You may be required to demonstrate eligibility into a technical school by completing an Entrance Examination with a minimum score of 70% or higher.
You must be willing and able to maintain good academic standing, academic course load, and continuous progress and proficiency in on-the-job learning and classroom training as prescribed in the four year apprentice program and respective trade. Each apprentice is required to receive related classroom and on-the-job training under the supervision of a journey level tradesperson. Classroom hours will be accomplished at local community colleges and training facilities during off duty hours, 2 to 3 nights per week, for the duration of the four year apprenticeship program. If you are required to attend a community college or related technical trade school, you must meet school eligibility requirements to include a high school diploma, GED equivalency, or equivalent.
You must be willing and able to sign a two-year agreement to work within the Department of Defense for two years after completion of the four year apprenticeship program.
