This position is located in the Health Administration Service (HAS) of the Community Based Outpatient Clinic in Corpus Christi, TX.
Duties
Operating a variety of vehicles such as stretcher van, 1-ton wheelchair van, passenger van, etc.;
Picking up and delivering patients within the health care system;
Planning driving routes using maps to select the most efficient route for each trip;
Maintaining a work-issued cell phone to allow dispatch by phone or two-way radio;
Maintaining a close liaison with professional staff to expedite emergency requests;
Operating motor vehicles safely on various road conditions, maintaining proper following and braking distances, pivot points for turns, and speeds for each condition;
Executing reasonable procedures for backing, parking, braking, and drying brakes and maneuvering in narrow streets with sharp turns;
Monitoring gauges for properly maintained oil pressure, speed, water temperature, and fuel and battery levels;
Recognizing overheated brakes, clearances for overpasses and bridges, and weight limits for roads, ferries, bridges, etc.;
Performing road checks to monitor oil, air, fuel leaks, and tire conditions and diffusing any problems to ensure safe driving conditions;
Reporting mechanical malfunctions/deficiencies to the Fleet Manager;
Recognizing emergency medical situations and performing basic life support;
Maintaining and cleaning vehicles and performing driver maintenance and minor emergency repairs;
Maintaining vehicle maintenance and travel logs and completing accident forms as needed;
Performing related duties as required.
Work Schedule: Monday through Thursday, 7:00am - 5:30pm.

Qualifications
This position requires a commercial driver's license with passenger endorsement and the ability to perform the duties of the Motor Vehicle Operator without more than normal supervision.
PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK CONDITIONS: The employee exerts physical effort in stooping, reaching, bending, turning, or moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to operate the vehicle's hand and foot controls. The Motor Vehicle Operator operates the lift manually when necessary. Physical effort is required to stoop, bend, and climb to inspect a vehicle and to lift more than a 60-pound tire/rim combination to change tires. The employee operates vehicles in traffic and road conditions, including very congested urban traffic, interstate highways, city streets, county roads, rural unpaved roads, construction zones, and in all weather conditions. The Motor Vehicle Operator is required to work indoors and outdoors and is exposed to heat, cold, dust, rain, etc. The employee is exposed to dirt, fumes, grease, and other elements/irritants.
