The incumbent of this position serves as a Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist and is responsible for the technical operation of digital stationary and digital portable roentgenological equipment in conjunction with the taking of routine fluoroscopy and special examinations, and the processing of radiographic procedures utilizing computed radiographic equipment.

Duties

Performs digital fluoroscopy, digital C-arm fluoroscopy in surgical suite, digital portable x-rays in ICU and newborn nursey, etc., and operates teleradiology equipment and any PAC's equipment in the department, and all standard diagnostic x-ray procedures. Receives requisition and patient, explains methods of procedures, positions patient and makes exposure necessary for the requested examination. Schedules patients for examination. Evaluates the nature of critical and emergency procedures and rearranges patient priorities to accommodate them. Maintains records of patients treated, examinations performed, films taken, etc. Maintains permanent record of examinations by entering proper information into Radiology Information System. Incumbent must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on their assigned unit. Incumbent must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span; possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patients status. and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to age-specific needs. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Public Law 97-35 requires that persons who administer radiologic procedures meet the credentialing standards in 42 CFR Part 75. Essentially, they must (l) have successfully completed an educational program that meets or exceeds the standards described in that regulation, and is accredited by an organization recognized by the Department of Education, and (2) be certified as radiographers in their field. The following meet these requirements: (l) Persons employed by the Federal Government as radiologic personnel prior to the effective date of the regulation (January 13, 1986) who show evidence of current or fully satisfactory performance or certification of such from a licensed practitioner such as a doctor of medicine, osteopathy, dentistry, podiatry, or chiropractic who prescribes radiologic procedures to others.(2) Persons first employed by the Federal Government as radiologic personnel after the effective date of the regulation who (a) received training from institutions in a State or foreign jurisdiction that did not accredit training in that particular field at the time of graduation, or (b) practiced in a State or foreign jurisdiction that did not license that particular field or did not allow special eligibility to take a licensure examination for those who did not graduate from an accredited educational program, provided that such persons show evidence of training, experience, and competence as determined by OPM or the employing agency. In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS-07:Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Independently performs difficult radiograph examinations. Assures that sterile supplies, contrast materials, catheters and other required equipment are present and laid out. May prepare and administer contrast material. Maintains records patients treated and examinations performed. Selects the most appropriate and efficient action plan after reviewing all pertinent data and assessing the patient's ability to (walk, stand, lay down, hold still) and condition before the examination is started. OR One full year of graduate education meets the requirements for GS-7. GS-08:Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Independently performs and optimizes technical factors according to equipment specifications to meet the ALARA principle. Receives patients, explains methods of procedure and positions patients. Confers with radiologists to establish requirements of nonstandard examinations and determines technical factors. Advises radiologist or physician of results of examination and provides a preliminary diagnostic evaluation. Verifies that exposure indicator data for digital radiographic systems has not been altered or modified and is included in the Digital Imaging Communications in Medicine (DICOM) header and on images exported to media. Analyzes images to determine the use of appropriate imaging parameters. Selective Placement Factor: Certification with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in radiology. (Please provide a copy with your application) NOTE: Graduate education or an internship meets the specialized experience required above GS-5 only in those instances where it is directly related to the work of the position.One full year of graduate education meets the requirements for GS-7. One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study. If that information cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours should be considered as satisfying the 1 year of full-time study requirement. Part-time graduate education is creditable in accordance with its relationship to a year of full-time study at the school attended. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
