About the Position: This position is located in the United States Army Corps of Engineers, Philadelphia District, Marine Design Center Engineering Division, Hull Branch in Philadelphia, PA.
Duties
Serve as senior engineering technician in the construction and design of US Army Corps of Engineering Floating Plant construction projects. Projects include floating plant such as barges, dredges, floating cranes, towboats, and survey boats.
Utilize Computer-Aided Design software in marine drafting and ship design.
Conduct analytical, operational, or performance studies to ensure general arrangement and layout is compatible with the overall project.
Perform field inspections to ensure compliance with appropriate specifications, regulations and acceptable industry practices.
Make recommendations for improvements/corrections and interacts with customers.
Act as liaison between organization, contractors, and customers in accordance with the official Quality Assurance Plan.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of up to 75% of the time.
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes (1) Performing shipyard repair and/or construction quality assurance oversight; (2) Conducting ship checks and inspections of marine vessels and marine floating plant; (3) Performing design development for marine vessels and marine floating plant such as dredges, towboats, survey vessels, floating cranes, and various types of barges; AND 4) Preparing technical correspondence for use by engineers, contractors, and manufacturers of equipment and parts. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
