Duties

The primary purpose of this position is the handling and dispensing of aircraft fuel (JP-5) for the Base Elizabeth City fuel farm. The incumbent will serve as the fuel distribution systems operator performing refueling functions at the facility.Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • The position requires a valid state driver's license.
  • Applicant is required to meet the physical requirements of the position.
  • This position requires a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI).
  • A one-year probationary period may be required.
  • Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • The position requires a CDL license w/ hazmat and tanker endorsement.

Qualifications

Applicants will be evaluated on their ability to perform the duties of the position rather than the length of experience. Eligibility will be determined by the relevance, scope, and quality of all experience and training, regardless of where or how acquired. Applicants will be rated and ranked based on their knowledge of the following job elements: 1.  Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision (Screen-out Element). 2.  Knowledge of proper and safe operation of bulk fuel delivery trucks and the techniques of receiving and dispensing fuel. 3.  Ability to keep records such as gauge and scale readings and volume transferred and take samples of fuels for laboratory analysis. 4.Ability to operate various pumps used to load, unload, and transfer fuel oils, gasoline, and jet fuels through pipelines and hoses to and from tank farms, fueling pits, aircraft, tankers, tank trucks. 5.  Ability to inspect pipelines and tank farm areas, examining facilities and equipment, reporting the need for repairs, and perform general maintenance work, such as flushing tanks, cleaning nozzle strainers, pit box strainers, truck loading stand strainers, fill line strainers, and water line strainers. 6.  Knowledge of when to make adjustments to maintain adequate pressure, and start or stop pumps in accordance with tank gauge readings, warning horns, signal lights, and operating instructions. National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
