The position is located in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Veterans Health Administration (VHA), Mid-Atlantic Health Care Network (VISN 6), Durham VA Medical Center, in Fiscal Service. The primary of the position includes the receipt, disbursement, examination, deposit, custody, and other clerical processing of cash items such as direct handling of the cash items and use of cash accountability control methods.

Duties

Duties to include but not limited to: Broad working knowledge of all banking, treasury, accounting procedure, policies to include regulations, practices, procedures, and policies concerning the receipt, disbursement, and accountability of funds. Knowledge of a wide variety of interrelated steps, conditions, procedures, or processes required to assemble, review, and maintain complex fiscal transactions. Knowledge of handbooks, and other financial regulations, laws, and requirements related to agent cashier/teller operations. Knowledge of Beneficiary Travel System and able to answer payment questions. Knowledge and skill in the use of computer equipment with a wide variety of software such as Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, Knowledge of the negotiability, validity, and genuineness of cash items. Knowledge of automated financial system to reconcile errors that require an understanding of nonstandard procedures. Ability to analyze work requirements and determine resources, equipment and other needs to accomplish work assignments. Provides the customer with consistent information according to established policies and procedures. Handles conflict and problems in dealing with the customer constructively and appropriately. Balances funds daily. Reviews documents for acceptability, mathematical accuracy, and completeness. Knowledge of debit and credit principles of each disbursement or collection to perform accurate accounting functions. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement. You may qualify based on your experience as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include but are not limited to above average experience performing clerical/administrative support functions. Highly customer service oriented. Exhibits above average communication skills. Some knowledge of the cashier operations and experience with the handling of monetary instruments (i.e., checks, money orders, cash etc.). Well versed with using the OTC Net and VISTA/CAP applications. Capable of maintaining security over sensitive information. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited based on time spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements: The work requires some physical effort such as standing, walking, bending, or sitting. There are no special physical demands.
